CNIPA: The average examination period for invention patents has been reduced to about 15.5 months

On March 29, the China National Intellectual Property Administration held a regular press conference in March to introduce the recent key work of the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

Wang Peizhang, Director of the Intellectual Property Application Promotion Department of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, mentioned that we should continue to improve the quality and efficiency of intellectual property examination, improve the patent examination standards for new industries in new fields such as big data, artificial intelligence, and genetic technology, expand and accelerate the scale of review, and improve the examination mechanism that supports key core technology breakthroughs and high-quality development of key industries. The average examination period for invention patents has been reduced to about 15.5 months, while the average examination period for trademark registration applications has remained stable at 4 months.

Heng Fuguang, spokesman and office director of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, mentioned that we should develop new quality productivity through patent work. New productive forces are the advanced productive forces that innovation plays a leading role in. We should give full play to the incentive and innovation role of the patent system and the technology supply role of patents themselves, promote key core technology research and development, strengthen patent transformation and application, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into real productive forces, and cultivate new driving forces for the development of new quality productive forces.
